1. Who is DPHH for?
Originally as the name suggests, DPHH is primarily for working deaf professionals in the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania area. It is open in public for everyone, including you to gather and socialize within the deaf community.
2. Why DPHH?
As we said in our main web page, DPHH in Pittsburgh is a great social gathering of all ages for all unique Deaf and hearing people involving the Deaf community. Everyone, including hearing friends, interpreters, and college students are encouraged to come and join in the fun!
3. Are hearing people allowed to attend DPHH?
YES, hearing people are encouraged to attend. Many sign language interpreters and other hearing professionals enjoy attending DPHH as it is an opportunity to meet old and new friends and to improve signing skills.
4. Are out of town people welcome to DPHH?
YES, DPHH is a popular event and is attended by people from all over the globe.
5. Who organizes DPHH?
DPHH events are organized by the DPHH Committee. Committee members are volunteers who work together to select locations, handle logistics and address any issues that may arise. Also DPHH committees are the responsibility for taking pictures and post in the DPHH Pittsburgh website for your memorable moments.
6. When are DPHH events announced?
We post the announcement event in DPHH front main web page, a day after event is over. DPHH committees take the events in every third Friday of the month.
7. What time do people arrive?
DPHH committees observed in the past events, Deaf attendees sometimes eat dinner at this event location, they come around 7:00 p.m., and more Deaf attendees arrive after 9:00 p.m.
8. How can I recommend a location or other ideas to DPHH?

9. How can I apply to become a DPHH Planning Committee member?
Send an email to committee@dphhpgh.com stating your interest and why you want to participate.
10. I see some cities use the name of DHH (Deaf Happy Hour). What is difference between DHH and DPHH?
We favor to stay with the original acronym: DPHH because of, the letter P stands for Professional and it is the strongest word for general to Deaf, hard of hearing and hearing people that is attractive to everyone who are very interested to participate in the deaf community.
11. Is it true that DPHH hurt the Deaf club, Pittsburgh Association for the Deaf (PAD) business?
No, we are not! We respect PAD and their most important events. Occasionally, PAD does not have their events mostly on third Friday of the month. We have one committee who is the President of PAD and shares our ideas to improve their PAD! DPHH committee decided to host PAD once a year. DPHH is the best way to introduce new faces to the Deaf community particularly PAD and other Deaf organizations. We meet new people at various parts of Pittsburgh each month.
12. If I do not know how to use sign language, can I attend DPHH events?
Yes, you are always welcome regardless of your language preference. Everyone at DPHH communicate in their own way. Although, American Sign Language (ASL) is the preferred choice of all Deaf languages; everyone at DPHH is eager to communicate with you the best way they can! Several times, we have seen a hearing person with minimal signing skills, a hard of hearing person, an orals and even a Deaf and blind person having a grand time at DPHH events. DPHH is open to everyone!
