What I wore Halloween dress (2009 version)

I wore the Halloween costume at his friend's Halloween party:

David as Luigi

The reason I am Luigi: I am tall, skinny guy and LOVES Nintendo. Fits my personality.

Other than that, 2003's Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour for Nintendo GameCube gaming system, you might not miss Luigi's celebration after birdie the hole:

Luigi wins birdie, gives him a joy gesture and mentioned that it appears to be similar to a sign language symbol shown in the 1994 Random House Webster's American Sign Language Dictionary:

Virtual NES can't do on all gaming platforms

I remember back in late 1990s when I discovered the 8-bit Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) on emulators and illegal ROM games, became craze in Internet.

Until yesterday, my friend shared with me, to check out the gaming site: vNES or Virtual NES, that allows playing any 8-bit Nintendo games (including homebrew and unreleased games) on web browser without needing to download into local hard drive.

The only real requirement to play those 8-bit games is that you need Java 1.5.0 or higher to play on the computer.

The only interesting part in my mind about vNES, can this emulator be played on Internet Browser over gaming platforms I own: Nintendo Wii, Nintendo DSi and PlayStation3? I bought my time to take some experiment to try this out if it is compatible with browser platform. I selected the vNES game page, Super Mario Bros 3 to try:

Wii: Internet Channel
Developed by Opera Software, I just discovered that Opera does not support Java package. The screenshot would look like on my 42-inch LCD HDTV:

vNES on Wii Internet Channel
The screenshot displayed: "Because of a lack of the Java Standard Edition environment, vNES is not currently supported on the Nintendo Wii."

Nintendo DSi Browser (Titled: Opera Browser)
Another one for Opera Software, I tried to get into selected game to play, and I get the whole black screen on web browser with nothing in there:

vNES on DSi Browser

PlayStation 3 Internet Browser
Built by Netfront (a microbrowser for embedded devices) and developed by Access Co. Ltd. of Japan, I get the same whole black screen as DSi.

Conclusion
All three gaming platforms with Internet web browser application does not support Java 1.5.0 package which is required to run and play Virtual NES games, it is sad to see that I am unable to play NES on web browser-based emulator on gaming systems.

LittleBigPlanet Deaf Community Level

I have been kicking out high myself playing LittleBigPlanet (short word for LBP) Sony PlayStation 3 video game system. LBP is a puzzle platformer (aka Mario & Sonic for basic jump 'n run) and user generated content video game.

The game includes online and offline story mode (single player or cooperative players), share community levels to play the creator's game levels in the game network across the globe.

My friend, Sam C. discovered the community level includes the sign post of American Sign Language fingerspelling of alphabet, A to I. This level is published by lennylightspeed, PSN (PlayStation Network) username.

We are delighted that the gamer spent a ton of their time on this community level dedicate to the Deaf community. Click to view the three-minute level in the video below.

N64's Goldeneye 007

GoldenEye007box.jpg

My favorite Nintendo 64 game, Goldeneye 007, acclaimed as 1997 Game of the Year and most played single & multi player in late 1990s, it brings me back the memories to sniper and shoot the man on the head. I am wondering if it could coming on Wii Virtual Console? That would be very complicated, though not impossible.

Nintendo owns Goldeneye 007 rights as the original publisher for Nintendo 64 in 1997.
Rare owns Goldeneye 007 rights as the developer.
Microsoft owns Rare today.
Activision has the rights to publish ANY James Bond Game today.
United Artists owns the James Bond rights for movies.

Essentially, at least five parties would have to come to agreement in order for Goldeneye 007 to show up on the Wii Virtual Console.

Also, I am much interested to see Blast Corps in Virtual Console. Rare owns as developer and publisher for this game, but I doubt if Rare to publish this original game on Virtual Console.

Wii-mote Multitasking Disturb Deaf

David explains in ASL how Nintendo Wii-mote can be used and communication can disturb during gameplay.

Abstract translation from my first vlog: I would like to share the story about my Nintendo Wii, decide to use American Sign Language (ASL) instead writing in the blog because of easy to express my ASL over English.

First part – I explained how wii-mote is used with motion sensor technology.

Second part – I explained the safety guide to use wrist strap during game play.

Once you understand these parts, the final part is: communication barrier during gameplay. I cannot have multitasks – unable to communicate and playing the game at the same time on my wii-mote, depends on how the game is played (intense action).

That’s all folks. Playing alone in your locked room or in the house shouldn’t be an issue.

Tetris Addiction

I purchased Tetris DS for Nintendo DS last Tuesday (March 21st) and this game stole my time by fooling on the Nintendo WiFi Connection. The blocks puts in my head all the time. Block, block, block and block to eliminate some lines which are proven incredibly addictive in my blood.

I enjoyed my time to play against two and four player mode on WiFi, taken on wild sides against each other. In a rather cool move from Nintendo to include a chess-style Tetris ranking for players based on who they win and lose against. I had a ranking of around little over 6,000 (Level 1: Expert), comparing more than 10,000 Tetris players across the globe.

Will Tetris DS sell Nintendo DS just like original Gameboy did?

I have posted an entry of 100 IMDb movies, and now it's turn to video games. I chose the recent 1up article about Electronic Gaming Monthly (EGM) greatest video game of their time (2006), list the ranked 200 games. I broke down to top 100, listed bold games I have played, and bold / italic that I have completed the game. It came surprising myself that 90% of ranked games I have played shown below.

Did you see four Nintendo games made in Top 10 list? Nintendo must be grand daddy of the video games.

1. Super Mario Bros.
2. Pac-Man
3. Street Fighter II
4. Tetris
5. The Legend of Zelda
6. Super Mario 64

7. Space Invaders
8. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
9. Grand Theft Auto III
10. Pong (Arcade)

Portable Video Game Evolution

Since I saw Sock Master's Game Console Controller Family Tree, and it really impress me that I kept coming back to analyze how the controller evolved through the time until I thought of my idea - what about portable console game? Even few months later, I looked everywhere on website and in blogs; these look like these does not exist from my idea. Decided to do this right away.

I borrowed Sock Master's idea to make a diagram chart of portable (handheld) video game tree following the chronology. Created this for four hours, my time is worth and the result is amazing.

UPDATE:Since I launched my project, Portable Gaming Family Tree has become a bit hit. With more over 16,000 unique visitors caught their eyes on the chart, over 300 website referrals linked and few of them respond the comments here in my blog entry in less than a week.

I received very few of their feedback on this. I have to admit myself that I knew there were few mistakes in the chart; I fixed to make this straight out. Special thanks to visitor who left the comment in my blog.

You will notice the revised date on bottom right corner in this image; you can know when the last time this chart has made some changes. Speaking of my personal words, this project is one of my best I ever had.

Kids Play Time Limit

The PlayLimit item cost expensive $100, the smart way for the parents takes their control to let kids to play the game, the kids need to get off their fat asses and do something else like losing weight or studying.

If history can teach us anything, kids will just steal the tokens from their mother's purse. Thinking more along the different way - along the lines of those string-tied tokens, or picking the token lockbox (or the dispenser in the console itself)? The life of a hacker begins!
