I'm tired to see the gas price rising all the way up. As today of April 13th, the average fuel per gallon in my hometown east of Pittsburgh is 2.17. I had to spend almost 30 dollars to refill the full of tank in my car. I usually do that for the average of two or three times a month. That's almost 60-90 dollars per month! I would start complain if it reaches the 3 dollars per gallon, the last time it happened in early 1980s during fuel shortage.
Last year in fall of 2004, the major leading chain grocery store, Giant Eagle has announced to bring new and innovate ideas a way to develop cross-promotional rewards program in GetGo (Giant Eagle gas station store) called FuelPerks which gives Giant Eagle customers rewards that can be redeemed at GetGo stores.
When you pay 50 dollar points worth of grocery foods and stuff with your Giant Eagle Advantage membership card, you will receive a reward: A ten cent discount from gas per gallon (e.g. down 2.07 from 2.17 per gallon). The more you spend dollars total saved in your Advantage membership card, the more than ten cents off. For example, I had $170 points spend with my card in track to keep in four weeks and I earn the reward of 30 cent off (3 times $50 points) in GetGo gas station: 1.87 down from 2.17 per gallon. Once you used the fuel to fill up with FuelPerks reward in one transaction, it will reset to zero reward , but not to points under $50.
That is great investment to save the money if I go Giant Eagle every time to use Advantage Card to build the points and earn fifty dollar points for a reward to collect and save, and go to GetGo gas station to use discount from same Advantage Card.
There is good strategy to save your money fast: Give one of two same Advantage account cards to the family relatives and use this cards most of the time, to skyrocket the dollar points to earn easy discounts. Even, I can earn FuelPerks discounts up to a FREE tank of gas!
