Things I Own: Video Game Systems

I went to Paul Katcher's website, he talks about his collection that he has kept in storage for last 35 years. I really enjoyed his articles, and I thought myself, why not I dare to tell you in my blog about my collectors?

Okay, let's start with my first priority: console video gaming system and handheld which I have kept in my storage since I was 11 years old (1988).

Nintendo Entertainment System (1988): I never forget that my mom sent me the very first console game system for Christmas, and played my first Super Mario Bros game to death. I'm totally excited that I rescued Princess from beating Bowser down into the lava.

Sega Genesis (1989):I was jealous to see my old neighbor friend own this system to show off for better graphics than NES. I bought it with Sonic the Hedgehod 2 free game in 1992. I have beaten this game before owning this.

Super Nintendo Entertainment System (1991): Few weeks after it launched in October 1991, I begged my dad to get this $200 system for my birthday. He can't afford to get this, so I had an clever idea: asked each of my family members to give my birthday money to my dad to get SNES for me. Never forget that I played Super Mario World, the best.

Sony PlayStation (1995): I heard so much about this positive gaming system from magazine editors, and I decide to go for it. This system launched in Sept. 9th 1995, I bought it for almost $400 dollars I have saved for last few months from my Social Security Income. Includes Toshinden game, extra controller and memory card.

Nintendo 64 (1996): First time for me pre-ordering to reserved this system before it came out. $250 includes Super Mario 64 game. I never forget that I have beaten this game for 11 times in few months. I declared that I'm not the only one to said the game is one of greatest video game of all time.

Gameboy Pocket (1996): I decide to sold original (fat and grey) Gameboy for the money to exchange the Pocket. Reason: better visuals, longer battery life. I remember I killed my time playing Tetris Attack.

Gameboy Color (1997): Finally, Gameboy comes in color since debut in 1989. Bought it myself for $100. Just feel like 8-bit NES games. First got Super Mario Bros DX. Beaten once and never play again.

Sega Dreamcast (1999): Reserved this system for $300 plus gaming and accessories for $150. I never forget that I got it after midnight at Monroeville Mall in Sega launch day, 9/9/99. First got Soul Cabliur and Sonic Adventures. Soul Cablur wowed me with graphics and gameplay, I fet this is one of greatest 3-D fighting game.

Sony PlayStation 2 (2000): Reserved this system in Rochester, NY when I was college student. First got SSX game, because it recieved solid reviews from editors of magazines and web sites. Bored with this game, because I realized that this is not my style of extreme sports. I sucked myself that my college roommate played this game for free.

Gameboy Advance (2002): Got this for $150. I'm glad that I could play all old Gameboy games on this. Played Mario Kart Advance, annoyed that I need good spots under the bright light to visual the screen to play.

Nintendo GameCube (2002): Preordered this for $200 and a game, Super Monkey Ball for $50. GameCube got bored quickly until one month later I purschaed Super Smash Bros Melee, my college roommates and I played this game almost everyday.

Gameboy Advance SP (2003): Happy to see back-lit on the screen and lithum re-charagable battery, make my life very happy after suffering with all Gameboys in almost 15 years. Addicted to play Advance Wars at nighttime.

Nintendo DS (2004): Innovate. Touch Screen. Voice recognizable. Dual screens. Preordered this system for $150. I knew this is not relationship with Gameboy family, Nintendo saying that DS is more like PDA.

Sony PSP (March 24th 2005): I do not need to get this, but I decide, why not? Because I am video game collector, aren't I? I got money from my career job, and I can afford it. Preordered cheaply for $250 bundle. I could be showing off to my people with this slick handheld system.

However, I also have other console and handheld systems that I already sold away: Gameboy, Sega Saturn and TruboGrafx-16. Because of that, I felt all of them are bored or bad, I need the money to exchange for new games/systems.

If you want to see several pictures of old handheld and video game system I own, check it out in Video Game Museum, the largest source for video games. Put your time wasted by going surfing there.

It's about time to move on with my life. I decide to get rid of my collection which filled my storage space at my home.

I am selling 48 pounds of eighty-four issues Next Generation magazine, a complete set of my collection. You might find those in eBay. That's a real deal. My risk: I set up the starting bid: $20 (shipping: $30 dollars) to open auction in ten days, which started on Thursday, May 1st.

What's more? I dumped candy-eye every issue scanned front cover in my Flickr set and don't miss to check this out if you're gaming person back in late decade of 1990s.

Next Generation or NextGen, one of the publications, is no doubt in mind, my favorite and best magazine that was approach the older audience, that bucked that trend and featured intelligent, well thought out articles, and extremely fair reviews. The physical magazine itself is high-quality material, stiff matte cover stock.

It's sad to let those go, and I'm glad that I scanned all of them to fill my memories in my lifetime. My auction last day is Sunday, May 11th.
